Over 400 inventors were celebrated at the recent Endress+Hauser Innovators’ Meeting.

Research and development (R&D) innovation continues to be a top priority at Endress+Hauser Canada Ltd. In 2023, the manufacturer’s parent company in Switzerland spent nearly $400 million in R&D – a 10.4 per cent increase over the previous year, and equivalent to 7.2 per cent of its turnover for the year.

The corporation also launched 20 new products and introduced more than 1,100 new device options last year, benefiting customers with new tools and better processes.

New patents, applications added

The family-owned global measurement- and automation-technology company also filed 257 patent applications for new inventions, resulting in the grants of 723 new patents. Endress+Hauser’s property-rights portfolio now comprises approximately 8,900 patents and patent applications in all industries, protecting the intellectual property behind its products and services. More than 1,300 employees are currently developing new solutions and services, and process improvements in production, logistics, Internet technology, and administration are crucial to the company’s success.

A key reason for the success of Endress+Hauser’s 2023 innovations was the way its teams of inventors comprised employees from various divisions and locations. More innovations emerged across company boundaries, which was evident in the awards for process improvements and in the transfer of already-developed solutions to corresponding applications in other areas.

More than 400 inventors with the company were honoured and celebrated for their commercially significant work at the annual Endress+Hauser Innovators’ Meeting, which recently took place at the corporation’s Swiss headquarters. Among the recognized achievements: new methods for easier, safer operation of devices; a function for detecting foam formation in tanks; better signal generation for ultrasonic flow measurement in gases; and new, even more comprehensive diagnostic functions with the company’s own Heartbeat Technology.

As the Endress+Hauser team drives innovation in all areas of the company, its patent applications cover all areas. While measurement technology continues to advance, the importance of software-based solutions keeps growing, as does the need for firmware, connectivity, and device integration. Use of cloud applications and artificial intelligence is also increasing, as are analysis and measurement of material properties. Endress+Hauser will continue to be up to the challenge.
